A sales representative, or “sales rep,” is a person employed or contracted by a company to directly interact with potential customers, identify their needs, present and promote the company’s products or services, and ultimately close deals by persuading them to make a purchase, all while maintaining positive customer relationships throughout the sales cycle.
Key responsibilities of a sales rep include:
- Prospecting and lead generation: Finding potential customers through various channels.
- Building relationships: Establishing rapport with customers and understanding their needs.
- Product demonstrations: Presenting product features and benefits to customers.
- Sales presentations: Delivering compelling pitches to showcase the value of the product or service.
- Negotiation: Discussing pricing and terms of sale with customers to reach an agreement.
- Handling objections: Addressing customer concerns and overcoming resistance to purchase
- Closing sales: Securing the sale by getting the customer to commit to a purchase
- Account management: Maintaining ongoing relationships with existing customers to ensure their satisfaction and repeat business.
