NOTE ABOUT USING THESE SCRIPTS: These are for reference and learning purposes. I highly recommend following the SLAP Formula so you can learn to improvise on the fly. Below you’ll find various sample scripts using the SLAP Formula.

Remember, use “open ended” questions that force the homeowner to think about a response. Do NOT use “close ended” questions (which are a “yes” or “no” answer). Keep it short and specific. Be direct and to the point while showing confidence!

“Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] , and I’m stopping by because I just left [NEIGHBOR’S NAME] house. I just helped them [DESCRIBE WHAT YOU DID/SAW ON THEIR ROOF] . I couldn’t help but notice that your roof is starting to show its age. When was the last time you had your roof inspected and routine maintenance conducted?”

“Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] , and I’m currently working with your neighbor, [NEIGHBOR’S NAME] to replace their roof. I’m stopping by because I couldn’t help but notice that your roof is starting to show its age. When was the last time you had your roof inspected and routine maintenance conducted?”

“Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] , and I’ve been speaking with a few of your neighbors on [STREET NAME/SUBDIVISION] . Many of them have homes built about the same time as yours and their roofs are beginning to show the signs of their age. I’m stopping by to ask when the last time you have had your roof inspected and routine maintenance conducted?”

“Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] , and I’m helping [NEIGHBOR’S NAME] replace their roof. [NEIGHBOR’S NAME] decided to replace their roof due to age and problem areas that were beginning to develop. As I was leaving their house, I couldn’t help but notice that your roof looked to be about the same age as theirs. When was the last time you had your roof professionally inspected? “

“Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] , and I couldn’t help but notice this when I was passing by. From the ground, it looks like your roof is starting to show its age. When was the last time you had your roof inspected and routine maintenance conducted?”

“Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] , and I couldn’t help but notice this when I was passing by. From the ground, it looks like your roof is starting to show its age. I’ve been on a few of your neighbors’ roofs and although they look fine from the ground, there are issues beginning to arise that they weren’t aware of. With your roof being about the same age, I wanted to ask you something.

Typically, the type of roof you have, [NAME THE TYPE] usually needs replacing after about [X] years. What year was your roof last replaced?”

“Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] . As I was driving by, I noticed something and wanted to bring it to your attention. I’m stopping by because I couldn’t help but notice that your roof is starting to show its age. Typically, the type of roof you have, [NAME THE TYPE] usually needs replacing after about [X] years. How long has it been since your roof was replaced?”
