About Lesson
Where do gutters go?
On the eaves of the home.
How are gutters measured?
By the linear foot.
How are downspouts measured?
By the Story.
A single story home would get single story downspouts.
A 2-story home would get 2 story downspouts.
The number of downspouts a home needs depends on several factors, including:
- Roof size: The watershed area, or the area where water runs off, can be determined by multiplying the peak to eave length by the width.
- Rainfall intensity: Homes with heavy rainfall may need more downspouts.
- Gutter system: Homes with multiple tiers of gutters may need more downspouts.
- Land slope: If the land around the house slopes towards the foundation, it may be more difficult to direct water away from the house
As a general rule homes get 1 downspout per every 25lf of gutter run.
