Manufacturer’s Warranty:

A manufacturer’s warranty is a guarantee from a manufacturer that a product will meet certain specifications, and that if it doesn’t, the manufacturer will provide a remedy. A manufacturer’s warranty is usually included in the price of the product, and the buyer doesn’t pay extra for it. The warranty describes the conditions in which the manufacturer is responsible, and what conditions are excluded

      • Each product will carry it’s own mandufacturers warranty- each product warranty must be reviewed to know what is or is not warrantied.
      • Many Manufacturers Warranties DO NOT cover the labor required to replace the product only the replacement product. 
Contractor/Workmanship/Labor/Craftsmanship Warranty:
 
is a legally binding agreement between a contractor and a client that guarantees the quality of the contractor’s work. It’s a promise that the work meets certain industry standards and will be free from defects for a specified period of time. If a client discovers a problem with the workmanship, they can make a claim against the warranty and the contractor will be responsible for fixing the problem.
 
      • This will differ from provider to provider. 
      • Some States have implied or express minimum warranty periods for contractors. 

Extended Manufacturers Warranty

An optional agreement that consumers can purchase to extend the coverage of a manufacturer’s warranty. Extended warranties are often sold by retailers or third-party providers.

      • Extended warranties will differ from product to product. 
      • It could provide for a longer period of time, coverage of more components , coverage for labor, etc. 

Other Terms Related to Warranties:

Base: The basic warranty offered. 

Coverage Period: The time frame during which a warranty is valid and the manufacturer or other entity is obligated to repair or replace a product or its components if they malfunction or develop defects

Limited Warranty: A “limited warranty” restricts the warranty to specific parts, certain types of defects, or has other limitations. Often these warranties will cover parts but not the labor to replace them.

Lifetime: The product’s suggested lifetime. When used as intended, the warranty will last as long as the product is expected to last.

Manufacturers Defect: When a product doesn’t meet its intended specifications or quality during the manufacturing process.

Non Transferable: A warranty that CANNOT be transferred from the original purchaser to a subsequent owner.

One-time transferable. This means the owner who installed the product can transfer the warranty to the second owner

Transferable warranty: A warranty that can be transferred from the original purchaser to a subsequent owner

ITEMS THAT ARE NOT COVERED UNDER (MOST) WARRANTIES:

Regular maintenance: Warranties do not cover normal regular maintenance,

Neglect or abuse: Damage caused by neglect or improper use isn’t typically covered.

Damage from events: Damage from accidents or natural disasters isn’t covered by warranties.
